Participatory design employs a variety of techniques including stakeholder meetings, workshops, and model making in which designers learn from user experts (Yamauchi 2012). Here is information on how to publish, spread your research, and search for your publications. Most of LiU's research publications are directly imported into DiVA from the Web of Science. Participatory programs within the workplace involve employees within all levels of a workplace organization, from management to front-line staff, in the design and implementation of health and safety interventions.

"Increasingly, ethnographically-inspired fieldwork techniques are being integrated with more traditional PD techniques (Blomberg et al., 1996; Bødker, 1996; Beyer and Holtzblatt, 1997, Kensing et al., forthcoming). The difficulty in transposing this notion of participatory design towards traditional architectural practice is that existing processes have evolved over time to be inherently technical; architects move along the prescribed path to navigate their available time, budget, and design intent. Participatory modeling (PM) uses computer models to inform and engage stakeholders in the planning process in order to influence collaborative decisions in WRM. Past evaluations of participatory models focused on process and final outcomes, yet, were hindered by diversity of purpose and inconsistent documentation. Participatory Design approaches involve users in co-research, co-design and co-production activities with the promise to create digital artefacts that meet users’ needs, whilst also being easy and enjoyable to use. For this to be effective, users need to be able and willing to actively participate in the design process.

An effective participatory approach, which some call "user-design" or "co-design," could be integrated throughout the life-cycle of an investment — and the Open Society Foundation's Economic Justice Program has been supporting research by the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex to map out how it might be done. Previous participatory design studies in educational contexts have focused on students. To expand such research to include teachers, the present dissertation examines the following: For what purpose have participatory design studies examined teachers? How are teachers’ goals and concerns manifested through participatory design?

We characterize Participatory Design (PD) as a maturing area of research and as an evolving Participatory democracy or participative democracy is a model of democracy in which citizens are provided power to make political decisions. Etymological roots of democracy (Greek demos and kratos) imply that the people are in power, making all democracies participatory to some degree. Design Beku was founded in response to mainstream design impulse to “solve” problems for communities, especially through technological interventions that were often irrelevant and unsuited to their context.
